Lake Titicaca, at 3,810 meters above sea level, is the world’s highest navigable lake. Its protected waters shelter endemic birds such as the Titicaca grebe, the Titicaca water frog, and aquatic plants including totora and llacho. It is an exceptional destination for nature and birdwatching.

History and customs
According to legend, Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, founders of the Inca Empire, emerged from Lake Titicaca. Taquile Island is known for weavings that express local experiences and traditions. On Amantani, visitors can stay with Aymara families whose lives are rooted in agriculture. The Uros people build and maintain floating islands and boats from totora reeds, which they also use for medicinal purposes. Visit Sillustani’s stone funerary towers, used by the Inca, Colla and Tiahuanaco cultures.
