Because of its closeness to the city of Lima, Paracas is the perfect stress-free getaway destination, with a number of activities on its coast and desert.
Paracas is a coastal ecosystem with rock formations opening onto the Pacific and part of the Paracas National Reserve. Its beaches, islands, cliffs and desert support birds, mammals, reptiles and fish. Take a boat to the Ballestas Islands to see sea lions and guano birds such as the Guanay cormorant, Peruvian booby and Inca tern. The surrounding arid desert and dunes offer striking sunsets.

Cultural landscape
More than 100 archaeological remains within the reserve record how ancient Peruvians lived on this coast, gathering shellfish and fishing. The Paracas are renowned for fine textiles, cranial deformation and trepanning. From the sea, visitors can see the famous El Candelabro geoglyph; like the Nasca Lines, its full form is clearest from the air.
