Known as the White City for its sillar-stone buildings, Arequipa was founded in 1540 as the Villa de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción.

In the historic center, explore Santa Catalina Monastery, the UNESCO-listed Main Square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Company of Jesus, with its Cusco School canvases and gilded woodwork.
Try ocopa arequipeña and solterito de queso, then sample regional favorites such as adobo arequipeño and pastel de papa served with rocoto relleno.
